Rectangular bars of stainless steel 440C are made of high-carbon martensitic stainless steel, which is mainly made up of 1.0–1.2% carbon and 16–18% chromium, with trace amounts of silicon, manganese, and molybdenum. For optimal hardness and wear resistance, this alloy can be heat-treated. It has a Rockwell hardness of roughly 58 to 60 HRC and a tensile strength of up to 760 MPa.
