Stainless steel The martensitic stainless steel used to make 431 Hex Bars has a chromium content of 15.0–17.0%, a nickel content of 1.25–2.50%, and a moderate amount of manganese, silicon, and carbon (up to 0.20%). Particularly in industrial and marine settings, this alloy is renowned for its exceptional corrosion resistance, high tensile strength (up to 850 MPa), and good toughness. After heat treatment, 431 has a hardness range of 40 to 50 HRC, providing a balance between strength and resistance to corrosion. When hardened, it becomes magnetic and retains its good mechanical qualities even at high temperatures.

Applications needing high strength, toughness, and moderate corrosion resistance frequently use stainless steel 431 hex bars. These consist of fasteners for petrochemical and chemical processing equipment, motor shafts, pump shafts, marine hardware, and aircraft parts. 431 hex bars are perfect for use in harsh, high-moisture, or mildly corrosive environments because of their resistance to oxidation and stress corrosion cracking. Their exceptional durability and machinability are advantageous to the automotive and aerospace industries. They are also appropriate for producing gears, valves, and other precisely machined parts used in high-performance industrial systems due to their exceptional mechanical qualities.
