The ferritic, free-machining stainless steel alloy known as Stainless Steel 430F is made up of roughly 16–18% Chromium, 0.6% Manganese, 1.0% Silicon, up to 0.12% Carbon, and additional sulphur (0.15–0.35%) for improved machinability. It has a yield strength of about 280 MPa and a tensile strength of about 450–550 MPa. The alloy offers outstanding machinability, good surface finish, and moderate corrosion resistance. Despite being magnetic and not heat-hardenable, 430F retains its mechanical strength and is especially well-suited for automated machining processes because of its enhanced chip-breaking capabilities.
