The chemical composition includes 18-20 percentage chromium, 8-10.5 percentage nickel, and a maximum 0.08 percentage carbon, besides 2 percentage manganese, 0.045 percentage phosphorus, and 0.03 percentage sulfur, with the materials being mostly iron, making up the balance. Mechanically, Stainless Steel 304 provides tensile strength of 515 MPa, its yield strength is 205 MPa with an elongation of 40% in 50 mm. It also has a hardness value of 92 HRB (Rockwell B); hence useful for a vast number of applications that require strength as well as resistance against corrosion.
