Nitinol Shape Memory Bars consist almost equally of nickel (approximately 55–56%) and titanium (approximately 44–45%), a binary alloy with distinctive thermomechanical characteristics. These bars display shape memory and superelastic properties because of reversible phase transformations between austenitic and martensitic phases. Common mechanical properties are tensile strength up to 1000 MPa, elongation up to 10–15%, and superior fatigue resistance. Nitinol can revert back to a previously set shape upon deformation and recover from extreme strain, which makes it suitable for dynamic and accurate applications in all key engineering applications.
