What is Invar 36 Bar and Rods?

Invar Bars and Rods consist mainly of about 64% iron and 36% nickel, which imparts to them an incredibly low coefficient of thermal expansion—usually about 1.2 x 10⁻⁶/°C in the temperature range 20–100°C. This renders Invar to be among the most dimensionally stable available alloys. It has tensile strength of around 490–620 MPa, yield strength of around 240–350 MPa, and elongation of 25–35%. The alloy also possesses fine machinability, is non-magnetic at temperatures below, and retains dimensional stability even in varying thermal conditions. The density of Invar is approximately 8.1 g/cm³, and it can be annealed for enhancing ductility for shaping operations.
