What is Invar 36 Bar and Rods?

Invar 36 Bars and Rods contain about 36% nickel and 64% iron, along with trace amounts of manganese, silicon, and carbon. This alloy provides Invar 36 with its characteristic property: a very low coefficient of thermal expansion—approximately 1.2 × 10⁻⁶/°C between 20°C and 100°C. The alloy has a tensile strength of approximately 490 MPa, yield strength of roughly 240 MPa, and elongation close to 40–42% in the annealed condition. It is very machinable, weldable, and has very good dimensional stability even at cryogenic temperatures. Invar 36 is also non-magnetic at low temperatures and resists deformation under thermal stress.
