At George Metals, we take pride in being a top-notch manufacturer and supplier right out of Houston, USA. Our D2 Steel Rods are renowned for their incredible wear resistance, hardness, and dimensional stability. D2 is a high-carbon, high-chromium tool steel that truly shines in high-precision and high-stress tooling applications. Adhering to ASTM A681 standards, our D2 steel rods come in a variety of sizes and finishes, perfect for cold work tooling, dies, punches, shear blades, and other components that face heavy wear. We ensure that each rod provides reliable performance, excellent machinability (when annealed), and consistent quality for all your industrial needs.
When it comes to composition and mechanical properties, our D2 Steel Rods are made up of about 1.40–1.60% carbon, 11.0–13.0% chromium, 0.90% molybdenum, 0.70–1.20% vanadium, along with trace amounts of manganese and silicon. This rich alloy mix gives D2 remarkable abrasion resistance, edge retention, and hardness that can reach up to 60–62 HRC after heat treatment. Plus, it maintains solid compressive strength and moderate toughness, making it a great fit for complex tooling designs. Typically, we supply D2 in an annealed state for easier machining, and it can be air-hardened to unlock its full mechanical potential.
