EN-9 has ~0.36–0.44% carbon, 0.30–0.60% manganese, trace phosphorus and sulfur. Tensile strength of about 550–700 MPa after hardening and yield strength around 300–400 MPa. It offers moderate wear resistance with good machinability when annealed. EN-9 is amenable to oil hardening and tempering, enhancing toughness and fatigue strength.
